# Travel Buddies in Delhi: Find a Crew for the Hills in 2026

By GoWeekender Team. Published 2026-06-30, updated 2026-10-23.

Where people in Delhi find travel buddies, which overnight-bus trips to Kasol, Jibhi, Shangarh and Bir suit a group of strangers, the boarding-night routine, the trek rules to check and how to vet someone first.

Delhi's hill weekends run on the overnight Volvo to Himachal, and for most people with office jobs that means a Friday night. If you're looking for travel buddies in Delhi, you can join a group that's already formed on that bus, or build a small crew and vet them properly first. Here's where to find people and where to go.

## How do you find travel buddies in Delhi?

Join a hosted overnight-bus trip from Delhi to Kasol, Jibhi or Shangarh, where the group is formed for you. Or post a specific plan (dates, budget, boarding point, pace) on a travel-buddy forum like Tripoto's or a Reddit community, then meet once in a public cafe before anyone books.

## The short answer

- For a group that has just met, pick a 3-day overnight-bus trip with one base and short walks, such as Kasol and Tosh.
- A 3-day Himachal trip is four nights away: leave on Friday night and you're back on Tuesday morning, so plan for Monday off.
- Plan Kheerganga as a day hike, and ask the host whether they hold SP Kangra permission for Triund on your dates.
- Post a plan with dates, budget, boarding point and pace, then meet once in a public cafe before anyone pays a deposit.

## Where do people in Delhi actually find travel buddies?

Forums reach the most people, but you vet everyone yourself; hosted trips and verified apps do some of that work for you. The six channels that work in Delhi:

- **Hosted departures:** a host runs the bus, stays and plan, and you meet the group at the boarding point. You don't pick your companions, but someone is in charge if things go wrong.
- **Travel-buddy forums:** Tripoto's community forum has long-running "looking for a travel buddy" threads where Delhi travellers post Kasol, Manali and Spiti plans, and Reddit communities like r/delhi and r/IndiaTravel get similar posts. Vetting is zero, and many posters share phone numbers publicly; don't.
- **Meetup:** [Delhi Travellers Group](https://www.meetup.com/delhi-travellers-group/) had 17,574 members in October 2026, but its organiser is the trip curator of a trip company, Unusual Escapes, and its events are mostly paid week-long trips (Arunachal at ₹30,500 plus GST in November 2026). Good for an organised trip, not for posting your own plan.
- **Hostels:** Zostel runs backpacker hostels in Delhi, Noida and Gurugram with common areas, and the hostels at the other end in Kasol, Jibhi and Bir are where solo plans turn into group ones.
- **Your own circles:** office chats, running clubs and cycling groups in Gurugram and Noida plan a lot of Himachal trips. Someone can vouch for everyone, but these plans often die in the group chat.
- **Matching apps:** apps that match travellers by style, budget and pace do the first filter for you. On GoWeekender, anyone who starts or joins a tribe has verified a government ID.

For the general method that works in any city, read [how to find travel companions in India](https://www.goweekender.in/blogs/how-to-find-travel-companions-india). The rest of this guide is Delhi-specific.

## Which trip from Delhi suits a group of new people?

Pick a 3-day overnight-bus trip with one base and short walks, so strangers spend time together without anyone being pushed past their limit. These are the departures leaving Delhi on GoWeekender as of 23 October 2026, all run by verified hosts; every Himachal trip is on the [Himachal Pradesh page](https://www.goweekender.in/destinations/himachal-pradesh). Most leave on Tuesday and Friday nights, and the hosts' itineraries reach the valley between about 8 and 9 am.

Bus times below are the range of scheduled journeys on EaseMyTrip's Delhi listings to [Bhuntar](https://www.easemytrip.com/BUS/delhi-to-bhuntar-bus-tickets/), [Banjar](https://www.easemytrip.com/BUS/delhi-to-banjar-bus-tickets/) and [Dharamshala](https://www.easemytrip.com/BUS/delhi-to-dharamshala-bus-tickets/) in October 2026.

- **Kasol and Tosh (3 days, from ₹7,000): pick this if** it's a mixed group's first trip. Short walks, plenty of cafes, and Tosh adds a proper mountain village on day two. Buses to Bhuntar, the stop below Kasol, take about 8.5 to 12 hours. The [Kasol group trip guide](https://www.goweekender.in/blogs/kasol-group-trip) covers the rest of the route.
- **Jibhi and Tirthan (3 days, from ₹6,500): pick this if** you want forest and wooden villages rather than cafes. The [Jibhi trip](https://www.goweekender.in/escapes/jibhi-tirthan-valley-getaway) takes in Jibhi Waterfall, Jalori Pass with a walk of about 4 km to Serolsar Lake, and Chhoie Waterfall; the host notes that the Serolsar walk depends on the weather. Buses to Banjar, the town below Jibhi, take about 9 to 12.5 hours.
- **Shangarh and Sainj (3 days, from ₹7,000): pick this if** your group wants open meadows and a quieter valley. Days are short: Barshangarh waterfall, a 3 to 4 km meadow walk to Pundrik Rishi Lake, and the Rupi Raila waterfalls. The host's itinerary has you checking in around 9 am.

- [Kasol & Tosh Getaway](https://www.goweekender.in/escapes/kasol-tosh-getaway) — 3D/2N — from ₹7,000 — next 27 Oct 2026
- [Shangarh & Sainj Valley Getaway](https://www.goweekender.in/escapes/shangarh-sainj-valley-getaway) — 3D/2N — from ₹7,000 — next 27 Oct 2026

## Which longer trips from Delhi suit a crew that already gets on?

Save the 4-day circuits for after your first trip together.

- **McLeodganj, Triund and Bir (4 days, from ₹8,500): pick this if** everyone already hikes and wants a ridge trek plus a paragliding town. Check the Triund permission rule below before you book. Buses to Dharamshala take about 10.5 to 12 hours.
- **Manali and Sissu (4 days, from ₹8,500): pick this if** it's your second trip together and you want Manali plus a look across into Lahaul at Sissu, with more road time.
- **Shimla, Chitkul and Kalpa (4 days, from ₹11,000): pick this if** you're a crew that already gets on and wants a road trip: Sarahan's Bhima Kali Temple, two nights in Chitkul by the Baspa river, then Kalpa.

The 5-day Manali, Kasol and Jibhi circuit (from ₹14,000) follows the same rule. More days on the road means more chances for strangers to fall out.

## What trek rules should a Delhi group check first?

Two popular treks from Delhi trips come with rules that change how a group plans, and you should check both against any itinerary before you pay.

### Kheerganga: plan it as a day hike

As of October 2026, the latest order we found is the one from July 2024: Himachal's Forest Department banned camping in the Kheerganga area "for the time being" and told visitors to reach before 10 am and return before 2 pm ([The Tribune, 10 July 2024](https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/himachal/camping-prohibited-in-kullus-kheerganga-area-638633/)). We found no order lifting it.

For a group of strangers, that means a pre-dawn start from Barshaini and a turn-back time everyone agrees on the night before. Some hosted Kasol trips from Delhi include Kheerganga, so check any itinerary against the current rule before booking, and ask the host how a night at the top squares with it. The [Kheerganga winter guide](https://www.goweekender.in/blogs/kheerganga-trek-in-winter) has start times by month.

### Triund: ask about police permission

A Kangra district order of 6 January 2026 banned trekking above 3,000 m and made prior permission from the Superintendent of Police's office mandatory for the Triund, Kareri and Adi Himani Chamunda routes. Permissions are cancelled whenever IMD Shimla issues a weather alert ([The Week/PTI, 6 January 2026](https://www.theweek.in/wire-updates/national/2026/01/06/himachal-kangra-administration-bans-trekking-above-3-000-metres.amp.html)). The order gave no end date, so check the current status with SP Kangra's office or your host.

The hosted McLeodganj, Triund and Bir trip from Delhi includes a night in camps at Triund, so ask the host whether they hold the SP permission for your dates. Bir's paragliding, the last day of that trip, stops every monsoon: in 2025 flying was halted in July and resumed on 16 September ([The Tribune, September 2025](https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/himachal/after-2-month-ban-paragliding-to-resume-at-bir-billing-from-september-16)). The flight is paid separately.

## How do you post a plan that gets the right replies?

Post a plan, not a wish. "Anyone up for the hills?" gets fifty replies and no trip. A post with dates, a budget and a boarding point gets five replies from people who can actually go.

Copy this shape:

> Kasol and Tosh, leaving Friday 20 Nov night, back Tuesday morning. Two of us looking for 2 or 3 more. Budget about ₹7,000 to ₹9,000 each including the bus. Boarding from Majnu ka Tilla. Want an easy pace and quiet evenings, not a party trip. Happy to meet for chai in Connaught Place this weekend first.

Fixed dates filter out people who are "in" for every plan and turn up for none. A budget range settles the ₹1,200 versus ₹4,000 room argument early. The pace line decides more than anything whether strangers get on. And offering to meet first puts off anyone who won't show their face.

Never post your phone number in a public thread. Move to messages, then a video call, then a meeting in person.

## How do you get out of Delhi on a Friday night?

Most Delhi buses to Himachal leave between roughly 6:30 pm and midnight, according to EaseMyTrip's Delhi listings to Bhuntar, Banjar and Dharamshala in October 2026.

- **Know the boarding points.** HRTC's state buses leave from ISBT Kashmere Gate, where HRTC runs an advance booking counter on the first floor. Private operators' listings on [EaseMyTrip](https://www.easemytrip.com/BUS/delhi-to-manali-bus-tickets/) also board at Majnu ka Tilla, RK Ashram and Dhaula Kuan. Hosted trips share the exact point shortly before departure.
- **Take the metro, then walk together.** The ISBT is beside Kashmere Gate metro station, and Majnu ka Tilla is a short auto ride from Vidhan Sabha on the Yellow Line. Meet at one metro exit an hour early and walk to the bus together.
- **Women heading to the bus alone** can ride in the women-only coach, usually the first coach in the direction of travel on Delhi Metro trains.
- **Book early, and together.** HRTC's own pages disagree on its booking windows (two months at main counters, one month at its Delhi counters), so ask the Delhi ISBT enquiry line, 011-23868694. Its online terms say e-tickets close 4 hours before departure, and cancelling costs 10% more than 12 hours ahead and 25% within 4 to 12 hours ([HRTC e-ticket terms](https://online.hrtchp.com/oprs-web/home/terms.do)). Its booking site also notes that only BS-VI Volvos now run to Delhi under an air-quality order, so check your service still runs.

The boarding-night checklist:

- Ticket, boarding-point pin and the operator's number saved offline
- The metro exit where the group meets, and who is waiting for whom
- Dinner eaten or packed: Friday-evening traffic out of Delhi is slow, and the first dhaba stop can come late
- A warm layer in your day bag, not under the bus
- A charged power bank and a government ID

## How much leave and money does a Delhi weekend take?

A 3-day Himachal trip from Delhi is four nights away: two on the bus and two in the valley. Leave on a Friday night and you're back on Tuesday morning, so you need Monday off and a slow Tuesday. Tuesday-night departures suit people with flexible or remote work, and the hills are quieter midweek.

As of October 2026, the Delhi departures on GoWeekender started at ₹6,500 to ₹7,000 per head for 3 days, ₹8,500 to ₹11,000 for 4 days, and ₹14,000 for the 5-day Manali, Kasol and Jibhi circuit. The trip pages we checked (Jibhi, Shangarh, McLeodganj) include the bus, stays and four to six meals, with lunches and activities such as paragliding or rafting extra. Check each trip's inclusions before you compare it with a do-it-yourself budget.

Planning your own trip with friends? Split shared costs equally, personal costs individually and rooms by room. An illustrative split for four friends on two nights in Kasol (round numbers, not quotes):

- **Bus seats:** private AC Volvo and Scania semi-sleepers from Delhi to Bhuntar were listed at about ₹440 to ₹700 a seat for 23 October 2026 on [EaseMyTrip](https://www.easemytrip.com/BUS/delhi-to-bhuntar-bus-tickets/). Everyone books and pays for their own seat, so a drop-out never leaves someone else holding a ticket.
- **Shared cab, Bhuntar to Kasol:** an illustrative ₹1,200 for the car is ₹300 each.
- **Rooms:** two doubles at an illustrative ₹2,000 a night for two nights is ₹8,000, so ₹2,000 each.

The [Kasol guide](https://www.goweekender.in/blogs/kasol-group-trip) works through the rest of the numbers.

## When is the best time to go from Delhi with a group?

October and November are the easiest months for a first group trip: the monsoon is over, the roads are steadier and the hills are cold but clear. They're also the months Delhi's air tends to be at its worst, which is reason enough to leave on a Friday.

- **December to February:** snow higher up, very cold nights, short days. Fine for Kasol or Jibhi with proper layers, harder for treks. Snow can shut Jalori Pass, the road to the Serolsar walk on the Jibhi trip, for weeks: in winter 2024–25 the bus service over it resumed after 36 days, then stopped again after fresh snow on 5 February ([The Tribune, February 2025](https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/himachal/nhai-restores-aut-luhri-road-via-jalori-pass)). Snow also blocks roads in Kinnaur district, where the Chitkul and Kalpa trip goes: a December 2024 snowfall affected 17 roads there, mostly in Pooh and Kalpa blocks (The Tribune). Ask the host what replaces those days if a road is shut.
- **Christmas and New Year:** Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday, and 1 January 2027 is a Friday too. Buses out of Delhi fill first on long weekends, so book both well ahead.
- **March to June:** the busiest season, as Delhi heats up. Book buses and stays early.
- **July to September:** monsoon landslides make hill roads unpredictable and Bir's paragliding stops. If you go, keep a buffer day and check road status before you leave: newspapers such as The Tribune report the State Emergency Operation Centre's district-wise list of blocked roads (108 roads on 27 July 2026), and your host will know the latest.

## How do you vet a new travel buddy in Delhi?

Treat the first meeting as a two-way interview, and hold it before anyone pays a deposit. Delhi makes this easy, because almost everyone can reach a metro-connected cafe. Connaught Place, Khan Market and Hauz Khas are all near metro stations and busy on a weekend afternoon.

At that meeting, talk money and pace out loud: budget, drinking, smoking, sleep times and how hard you want to walk. Most trips go wrong on these, not on safety.

Then the safety basics:

- Check ID and a real social profile, and share the group's names, the bus details and your live location with someone at home.
- Go to the boarding point with at least one other member, especially for a late departure.
- Save 112, India's emergency number, and 181, the 24-hour Women Helpline, which connects callers to police, hospitals and One Stop Centres.
- Walk away from someone who won't meet first, pushes to pay for you, or wants the trip to be "just the two of us" after one chat.

The full routine, including checks for women travelling alone, is in [is it safe to travel with strangers in India](https://www.goweekender.in/blogs/is-it-safe-to-travel-with-strangers-india).

## How GoWeekender helps Delhi travellers find a crew

GoWeekender is a free app for finding travel buddies and booking hosted trips. It doesn't run trips itself: verified hosts list them, and you book in the app.

You can join a departure: book one of the Delhi trips above, and the departure gets a trip chat in the app, which opens closer to the date, so you can say hello before the bus. Booking a hosted trip doesn't need an ID check, so not everyone on a departure will be verified.

Or you can start a tribe, your own group of 2 to 10 travellers for your dates. Starting or joining a tribe needs a verified government ID, and women-only tribes can be started only by verified women. The Vibe Check scores adventure, budget, social and pace preferences, and each tribe has a shared itinerary and an expenses tool where members log costs and settle up.

## Frequently asked questions

### Where can I find travel buddies in Delhi for a weekend trip?

Join a hosted overnight-bus trip from Delhi, post a specific plan on a travel-buddy forum such as Tripoto's or on r/delhi, ask around hostels like Zostel, or use a matching app. Meet anyone from an open forum once in public before booking anything.

### Which trip from Delhi is best for a group that has just met?

A 3-day trip with one base and short walks: Kasol and Tosh for a first trip, Jibhi and Tirthan for forest and villages, or Shangarh and Sainj for meadows and quiet. All three leave Delhi by overnight bus. Save longer circuits for a second trip.

### Where do buses to Himachal leave from in Delhi?

HRTC state buses leave from ISBT Kashmere Gate. Private operators also board at Majnu ka Tilla, RK Ashram and Dhaula Kuan, mostly between about 6:30 pm and midnight. Always confirm the exact point on your ticket.

### How early should we book a bus from Delhi to Himachal?

As early as you can for long weekends. HRTC's own pages disagree on the window (two months at main counters, one month at its Delhi counters), and its online e-tickets close 4 hours before departure. Ask the Delhi ISBT enquiry line, 011-23868694, and book the whole group's seats together.

### How many days of leave does a Himachal weekend from Delhi need?

A 3-day trip with overnight buses keeps you away four nights. Leave on Friday night and you're back on Tuesday morning, so plan for Monday off and a slow Tuesday. A 4-day circuit adds another day.

### How much does a group trip from Delhi to Himachal cost?

As of October 2026, hosted 3-day departures from Delhi on GoWeekender started at ₹6,500 to ₹7,000 per head, and 4-day circuits at ₹8,500 to ₹11,000. Lunches, cafe bills, activities and GST are usually extra.

### Can our group camp at Kheerganga?

As of October 2026, the latest order we found is the Forest Department's July 2024 camping ban, which asked visitors to reach before 10 am and return before 2 pm. We found no order lifting it. Plan Kheerganga as a day hike and sleep in Barshaini, Kalga or Tosh.

### Do you need permission to trek to Triund?

A Kangra order of 6 January 2026 made prior permission from the Superintendent of Police's office mandatory for the Triund route, cancelled on any IMD Shimla weather alert. It gave no end date, so check the current status with SP Kangra or your host before you go.

### Is it safe for a woman to find travel buddies in Delhi online?

It can be, with a process. Meet once in a public place first, check ID, share the group list and live location with family, travel to the boarding point with another member, and save 112 and 181. Women-only groups are another option.

### When is the best time for a group trip from Delhi?

October and November are the easiest: post-monsoon roads, clear cold days and an escape from Delhi's worst air. March to June is busier, July to September brings landslide risk, and December to February is cold with snow higher up.
