## About this trip

A quick escape from Bengaluru that feeds both the curious and the quiet side of you — and gets you home the same night.

You leave before the city wakes up and drive north to Lepakshi, a 16th-century Vijayanagara temple town just over the Andhra border. The temple is a masterpiece: intricate carvings, faded ceiling murals, stories tucked into every corner, and the famous hanging pillar that still puzzles the architects who come to look at it. A short walk away is the monolithic Nandi, carved from a single block of granite and among the largest in India. Beside it, Jatayu Theme Park has a striking sculpture of the bird from the Ramayana and open views across the countryside.

The second half of the day turns towards Chikkaballapur and the Isha Yoga Center, where the 112-foot Adiyogi stands surrounded by green and a great deal of silence. It is the kind of place where you pause, breathe and simply be — whether you meditate, reflect, or just sit and look. Stay for the sunset, then for the light and sound show that brings the story of yoga and Shiva alive against the night sky.

Stillness to wonder, silence to stories, all inside a single Saturday. Round-trip transport, entry fees and an experienced trip captain are taken care of; you bring the walking shoes and a bit of curiosity.

## Itinerary

### Day 1: Lepakshi Temple, Jatayu Park & Adiyogi at Sunset

The day starts before Bengaluru properly wakes up. Pick-ups run from Sarjapura at 6:00 AM, KLM Fashion Mall (Marathahalli) at 6:30, Tin Factory at 6:50 and Esteem Mall Bus Stop (Hebbal) at 7:30, with a halt for breakfast at a highway stop on the way out.

First stop is Lepakshi, a 16th-century Vijayanagara temple town about two hours up the Hindupur road. The temple is all intricate carving and faded ceiling mural, and it holds the famous hanging pillar that still has architects arguing. A short walk away sits the monolithic Nandi, cut from a single block of granite and one of the largest in the country. Close by, Jatayu Theme Park has a striking sculpture of the bird from the Ramayana and wide views over the surrounding countryside.

After a lunch break at a local restaurant, the drive turns towards Chikkaballapur and the Isha Yoga Center, where the 112-foot Adiyogi stands. There is time to walk the grounds quietly and watch the sun go down before the light and sound show begins. The return drive puts you back at your pick-up point by around 9:30 PM.

- 6:00 AM City Pick-ups & Highway Drive: Pick-ups from Sarjapura (6:00), KLM Marathahalli (6:30), Tin Factory (6:50) and Esteem Mall Hebbal (7:30). Meet your trip captain and the group.
- 8:00 AM Breakfast Halt on the Highway: A stop at a highway restaurant to eat and stretch your legs before the last run up to Lepakshi.
- 9:00 AM Lepakshi Temple & the Hanging Pillar: A 16th-century Vijayanagara temple of intricate carving and faded ceiling murals, with the hanging pillar that still puzzles architects.
- 10:30 AM The Monolithic Nandi: A short walk from the temple: one of India's largest Nandi statues, carved from a single block of granite.
- 11:30 AM Jatayu Theme Park: The striking sculpture of Jatayu, the bird from the Ramayana, with wide views over the surrounding countryside.
- 1:00 PM Lunch at a Local Restaurant: An unhurried lunch break on the way back towards Karnataka. Lunch is self-sponsored, so carry a little cash.
- 3:00 PM Adiyogi at the Isha Yoga Center: The 112-foot Adiyogi bust at Chikkaballapur. Time to walk the grounds, sit quietly and take the place in at your own pace.
- 6:00 PM Sunset & the Light and Sound Show: Sunset behind the statue, then the projection show that tells the story of Shiva and yoga against the night sky.
- 7:30 PM Return Drive to Bengaluru: Board for the drive home, with drop-offs at the same pick-up points by around 9:30 PM.

## FAQs

### What should I carry for this day trip?

Keep it light — this is a single day out, so a small backpack is plenty.
Documents: a hard copy of a valid government ID (Aadhaar or driving licence), the same one used at the time of booking.
Clothing and footwear: comfortable clothes that also work for temple visits, and walking shoes or footwear with proper grip. Lepakshi involves a fair bit of walking on polished stone.
Sun and weather: sunglasses, a cap or hat, sunscreen, and a light raincoat between June and September.
Essentials: two water bottles, a power bank and cable, personal medication and basic first-aid items.
Cash: carry some for lunch and any personal spending along the way.

### What time does the trip start and end?

Pick-ups begin early: Sarjapura at 6:00 AM, KLM Fashion Mall (Marathahalli) at 6:30, Tin Factory at 6:50 and Esteem Mall Bus Stop (Hebbal) at 7:30. Drop-offs are at the same points on the way back, at around 9:30 PM the same night.

The hourly plan on this page is indicative. Timings and the order of stops can shift with traffic on the highway, crowd levels at Lepakshi, or the schedule of the light and sound show at Adiyogi on the day. Your trip captain will keep the group informed as the day goes on.

### How much walking is involved?

It is an easy day, but not one you spend sitting in the vehicle. Expect roughly two to three hours of walking in total, spread across the Lepakshi temple complex, the short walk out to the monolithic Nandi, Jatayu Theme Park and the grounds at the Isha Yoga Center.

All of it is flat and on made paths — no trekking and no climbs, so it suits first-timers and families. Shoes with grip are far more comfortable than sandals, especially on the smooth stone inside the temple where footwear has to come off.

### Is it safe to travel with strangers?

Safety is built into everything we do. Every member completes ID verification before joining. Our community review system means travellers build reputation through completed trips. Plus, tribes typically form through chat and video calls before any trip happens, so by the time you meet, they're not really strangers anymore.

### Are your trips safe for women?

On all of our trips, safety is non-negotiable and our priority. The group stays together through the day with an experienced trip captain, and every stop on this itinerary is a public, well-visited site with people around. Solo female travellers join these day trips regularly, and you are back home in Bengaluru the same night rather than staying over anywhere.
