## About this trip

Chikmagalur has a fascinating story behind its name. The town was offered as a dowry to the younger daughter of Rukmangada, the Chief of Sakrepatna, which makes it 'the young daughter's town'. Set against the Mullayanagiri ranges at about 3,400 ft, it is also the coffee land of Karnataka, with tea and coffee plantations spread beneath cloudy hilltops. Whether you are a thrill enthusiast or a nature lover, there is always something to do here: hike the rugged terrain or take a dip under one of its many waterfalls.

We leave Bangalore on Friday night at 9:30 PM and reach the stay by morning. Day 1 is the big one: after breakfast we hike to the top of Mullayanagiri, the highest peak in Karnataka, stop for lunch, take a jeep ride to Jhari (Buttermilk) Falls for a dip, and watch the sunset over Hirekolale Lake before a campfire night with dinner and music. Day 2 starts with breakfast and a walk through the coffee estate, a coffee-shopping stop in town, water activities at the Yagachi backwaters and a visit to the ancient Belur temple, after which we drive back to Bangalore, reaching by around 11:30 PM.

Stay is on a multiple-sharing basis in tents or rooms, with breakfast on both days and dinner on Day 1 included. Lunches, the jeep rides to Mullayanagiri and Jhari Falls, and water activities at Yagachi are self-sponsored.

## Itinerary

### Day 1: Overnight Departure, Mullayanagiri Hike, Jhari Falls & Hirekolale Lake Sunset

Board the coach on Friday night and leave the city behind for an overnight drive of about 8 hours into the coffee hills of Chikmagalur. Pickups: 9:30 PM Udupi Grand (Teacher's Colony, HSR Layout), 10:00 PM KLM Fashion Mall (Marathahalli), 10:30 PM Domlur Sky Walk (Old Airport Road), 11:00 PM Govardhan Theatre (Yeshwanthpur, Tumkur Road).

After breakfast at the stay we drive to the base of Mullayanagiri and hike up to the highest point in Karnataka for sweeping views of the Western Ghats. Lunch is at a simple local eatery, then a jeep ride takes us to Jhari (Buttermilk) Falls for a dip in the chilly water, followed by sunset over Hirekolale Lake. Back at the camp or homestay, the night ends with a campfire (subject to weather), dinner, music and long conversations.

- 6:00 AM Reach the stay, freshen up & breakfast: Arrive at the homestay or campsite in the morning, freshen up and have breakfast before the hike. Early check-in is subject to availability.
- 8:30 AM Mullayanagiri hike: Drive to the base of Mullayanagiri, park and hike up to the highest peak in Karnataka. Soak in the views from the top, then trek back down to the base. Jeep charges, if used, are self-sponsored.
- 1:00 PM Lunch at a local eatery: Lunch at a local eatery near the base (self-sponsored). This is an offbeat location, so food options are limited and simple.
- 2:30 PM Jeep ride to Jhari (Buttermilk) Falls: Take a bumpy jeep ride through the coffee estates to Jhari Falls and dive into the chilling water. The jeep charge is self-sponsored.
- 5:00 PM Sunset at Hirekolale Lake: Drive to Hirekolale Lake for stunning views of the hills reflected in the water and enjoy the sunset.
- 7:30 PM Campfire night at the stay: Return to the camp or homestay, freshen up and settle in for a campfire night (subject to weather) with dinner, music and long conversations before a peaceful sleep.

### Day 2: Coffee Estate Walk, Yagachi Backwaters, Belur Temple & Return

Wake up to a walk through the coffee estate around the stay, then breakfast, packing and check-out. We stop in town for some coffee shopping, head to the Yagachi backwaters for speed boating, kayaking, bumper rides and other water activities (self-sponsored), and visit the ancient Chennakeshava temple at Belur for its Hoysala architecture. After lunch we drive back to Bangalore with a bag full of memories, reaching the city by around 11:30 PM.

- 7:00 AM Coffee estate walk: Wake up early and take a walk along the coffee estate around the campsite or homestay, with some outdoor games if the group is up for it.

## FAQs

### What should I carry?

Soft copy of your Aadhaar card, cargo or track pants and shorts, T-shirts, sunscreen, good-traction shoes, two water bottles, cap and sunglasses, a personal medical kit, flip-flops for lazing around the campsite, polybags for wet clothes, extra cash for meals not included in the itinerary, a power bank, a small backpack for the Mullayanagiri hike, and most importantly your sense of humour and spirit of adventure.

### What is the check-in policy and how strictly is the daily timeline followed?

Activity & daily timeline: the hourly schedule is tentative and designed to give you the best experience. The order of places visited or the timings may change because of weather, traffic, local government restrictions or road conditions.
Early check-in: standard check-in times apply as per the stay's policy, and early check-in is strictly subject to room availability on arrival. Where it isn't available, common washrooms and freshen-up areas will be provided so you can get ready for the day's plan without delay.

### How does group travel make adventures more accessible?

Simple math: split accommodation, shared transport and group rates on activities. What costs ₹15,000 solo often drops to ₹6,000-8,000 when you're travelling with your tribe. Beyond money, you also get shared planning effort, safety in numbers and, honestly, way better photos.

### How does GoWeekender match travellers?

Our Vibe Check algorithm goes beyond basic preferences. We analyse your travel pace (relaxed explorer vs packed itinerary), adventure appetite (chill vibes vs adrenaline junkie), budget comfort zone, and interests like photography, street food or trekking. The result? You get matched with travellers who genuinely get you, not just people heading to the same place.

### Is it safe to travel with strangers?

Safety is built into everything we do. Every member completes ID verification before joining. Our community review system means travellers build reputation through completed trips. Plus, tribes typically form through chat and video calls before any trip happens, so by the time you meet, they're not really strangers anymore.
