## About this trip

For most people Coorg means resorts and manicured coffee estates. Nelji Hill is the other side of it — an untouched trail with no crowds, no checkpoints and no queue for the view.

You leave Bengaluru on Friday night and wake up in the Western Ghats. After a Coorg-style breakfast at a cosy estate stay, a jeep takes you up narrow plantation roads to the trek base. From there the trail climbs steadily from 3,000 ft through dense shola forest, where mist hangs in the trees and the light comes through in strands, before opening onto grassland at the summit. Up top you get the Brahmagiri range on one side and Tadiandamol peak on the other, and a packed lunch with no reason to hurry. It is roughly 10 km round trip and takes most of the day — enough to test you, not enough to break you.

Evenings are unhurried: tea and snacks back at the estate, a Coorg-special dinner, and a night under a properly dark sky. Sunday is the slower half — the quiet Chiklihole Reservoir, the forts and gateways of Srirangapatna, and a short hike up Karikatta Hill for sunset over the Cauvery basin before the drive home.

Small groups, trained outdoor leaders and a local guide, separate sleeping zones for men and women, and forest department entry fees taken care of. Beginner-friendly, and open to anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.

## Itinerary

### Day 1: DAY 1: Nelji Hill Shola Forest Trek, Brahmagiri Views & Estate Stay

Your weekend starts on Friday night in Bengaluru. Board the coach at your chosen pick-up point, meet your outdoor leader and the rest of the group over a few icebreakers, then settle in for the overnight drive to the quiet, untouched side of Coorg. Pick-up timings: 8:30 PM New Udupi Grand (HSR Layout), 9:00 PM Yamaha Showroom (Domlur), 9:30 PM St. Mark's Cathedral Bus Stop, 10:00 PM Nayandahalli Metro Station.

You arrive in Coorg at dawn, when the crisp mountain air and the smell of filter coffee do the welcoming. Check into a cosy estate stay tucked into the Western Ghats, freshen up and fill up on a traditional Coorg-style breakfast. A 4x4 jeep ride up narrow plantation roads drops you at the base of the offbeat Nelji Hill trail, and from there it is a steady climb through dense shola forest and open grassland to the summit at 5,240 ft, with the Brahmagiri range on one side and Tadiandamol peak on the other. Picnic lunch at the top, an unhurried descent, warm evening snacks, a Coorg-special dinner and a starlit night back at the estate.

- 6:00 AM Arrival in Coorg & Estate Check-in: Reach the coffee-estate homestay at dawn, drop your bags and freshen up in the cool Western Ghats air.
- 7:00 AM Traditional Coorg Breakfast: A hearty Kodava-style breakfast at the estate — warm, filling and exactly what you need before the climb.
- 7:30 AM Jeep Ride to the Trek Base: A 4x4 climb up 2 km of narrow coffee-plantation road, with a new shade of green at every bend.
- 8:00 AM Nelji Hill Trek Through Shola Forest: A steady climb from 3,000 ft through misty shola woods and open grassland. Around 10 km round trip, moderate but rewarding.
- 12:00 PM Summit Views: Brahmagiri & Tadiandamol: The forest opens into hilly meadow at 5,240 ft — the Brahmagiri range on one side, Tadiandamol peak on the other.
- 1:00 PM Packed Lunch at the Peak: An unhurried picnic lunch at the top with nowhere to rush off to, before you turn back down the same green trail.
- 2:00 PM Descent & Evening Snacks at the Estate: Retrace the forest trail to the base and get back to the homestay by late afternoon for hot tea and snacks.
- 8:00 PM Coorg-Special Dinner & Starlit Night: A Kodava-style dinner at the estate, then an easy night under a sky full of stars and the quiet of the hills.

### Day 2: DAY 2: Chiklihole Reservoir, Historic Srirangapatna & Karikatta Sunset

The last morning rolls in with the chill of Coorg in the air — mist over the hills, birds in the trees and a filling breakfast to start things slow. After a little downtime at the stay you check out and make for one final Coorg stop: the quiet Chiklihole Reservoir, ringed by dense green and well off the usual tourist circuit.

From there it is a scenic drive towards Srirangapatna, with a lunch halt en route (self-sponsored). The island town was once Tipu Sultan's capital, and its forts, gateways and monuments still carry that history. As the day turns to evening you head for Karikatta Hills and take the short hike to the peak, timed to catch a wide sunset over the Cauvery basin. Once the light goes, you begin the drive back and reach Bengaluru at around 10:30 PM.

- 7:00 AM Misty Coorg Morning & Breakfast: Wake to mist drifting over the hills and birds calling from the trees, then a filling breakfast with nothing to rush for.
- 9:00 AM Check-out & Drive to Chiklihole: Pack up, settle out of the estate and set off on a green drive to the last Coorg stop of the weekend.
- 10:00 AM Chiklihole Reservoir: A calm water body ringed by dense forest and well off the usual Coorg circuit — worth a long, slow look.
- 1:00 PM Lunch En Route (Self-Sponsored): A halt on the drive towards Srirangapatna. Day 2 lunch is not part of the package, so carry a little cash for it.
- 3:00 PM Historic Srirangapatna: Walk the island town that was once Tipu Sultan’s capital — forts, gateways and monuments that still hold the story.
- 5:00 PM Karikatta Peak Hike & Cauvery Sunset: A short hike up Karikatta Hill, timed to put you at the top as the sun drops over the Cauvery basin.
- 6:30 PM Return Drive to Bengaluru: Come down after sunset and start the drive home, reaching Bengaluru at around 10:30 PM.

## FAQs

### What essential items should I pack for this trek?

To ensure a comfortable and hassle-free journey, here is your quick packing checklist:
Documents & Cash: Hard copy of Government ID proof (DL / PAN / Voter ID — same as used during booking) and sufficient cash for personal expenses.
Bags: Main Backpack (~30L) for homestay storage + Small Daypack (~10L) for treks and day outings.
Footwear & Outdoor Gear: Sturdy hiking shoes with good grip, floaters/sandals, a raincoat/poncho, waterproof phone cover, 2 reusable water bottles (no single-use plastic), and a lunch box with spoon for packed meals.
Clothing: 3 T-shirts, 3 quick-dry pants, 1 pair of shorts, 3–4 pairs of socks, 1 light pullover/warm layer, and a quick-dry towel.
Personal Care & Hygiene: Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo sachets, and personal toiletries.
Medicines & Safety: Personal daily meds, basic medicines (for fever, allergy, cramps, motion sickness), and Dettol spray or salt (useful for keeping leeches away on forest trails).
Handy Extras: A high-capacity power bank, poly bags for wet/dirty clothes, and old newspapers (to soak moisture out of wet shoes overnight).

### What is the check-in policy and how strictly is the daily activity timeline followed?

Activity & Daily Timeline: The hourly activity schedule provided is tentative and designed to give you the best experience. The order of places visited or timings may vary or be adjusted due to weather/climatic conditions, traffic jams, local government restrictions, or road conditions.
Early Check-in: Standard check-in times apply as per the stay/hotel policy. Early check-in is strictly subject to room availability upon arrival at the property. (In cases where early check-in isn't available, common washrooms/freshen-up areas will be provided so you can get ready for the day's plan without delay).

### Is it safe to travel with strangers?

Safety is built into everything we do. Every member completes ID verification before joining. Our community review system means travelers build reputation through completed trips. Plus, tribes typically form through chat and video calls before any trip happens, so by the time you meet, they're not really strangers anymore.

### Are your trips safe for women?

On all of our trips, safety is non-negotiable and our priority. Female outdoor leaders accompany every group. We assure you that the homestays/tent accommodations are secure. In addition to this, we guarantee separate sleeping arrangements for men and women.

### How difficult is the Nelji Hill trek?

It is beginner-friendly, but it is a full day out. The trail is roughly 10 km round trip and takes 7-8 hours, climbing steadily from about 3,000 ft to a grassland summit at 5,240 ft through dense shola forest. The gradient is constant early on and then eases off, so anyone who walks, cycles or jogs regularly will manage it comfortably — no prior trekking experience needed.

What helps: shoes with proper grip (not sneakers), full-length quick-dry pants, two water bottles and a small 10L daypack. Leeches are common on the forest stretch during and after the monsoon, so carry Dettol spray or a little salt and keep a dry change of clothes in your bag.

A trained outdoor leader and a local guide stay with the group the whole way, and the pace is set by the slowest walker rather than the fastest.
