## About this trip

Dudhsagar sits on the Goa–Karnataka border, and it earns its name the moment you see it: over a thousand metres of water breaking into a white sheet, the "Sea of Milk". It is counted among the five highest waterfalls in India, and the roar reaches you well before the view does.

Getting there is half of it. From the base at Kulem village the trail runs along the old railway tracks, past jeep trails, through Sonaulim village and over a hanging bridge, until the falls open up in front of you. There is time to swim in the pool at the base and eat a packed lunch beside the cascade before trekking back.

The second day is deliberately unhurried and deliberately loose. We head into South Goa and pick our way between the quieter spots — Cabo de Rama fort on the cliffs, Butterfly Beach, Palolem — chase the sunset over the Arabian Sea, then start the drive home.

Covered: return travel from Bangalore, a shared stay at Kulem, two breakfasts, the trek-day packed lunch and dinner, a local guide and a trip leader. Two nights are spent on the road, so the trek day starts fresh and you are back in the city on Monday morning.

An easy-to-moderate trek. Rain makes the trail slippery and the falls spectacular.

## Itinerary

### Day 1: Departure from Bangalore (Friday Overnight Drive)

We leave the city on Friday evening, earlier than a usual weekend trek, because there are around 560 km to cover and the trek the next morning is a long one.

Pickups run down the chain: Indian Oil Petrol Pump HSR (opposite Nandas) at 5:00 PM, Yamaha Showroom Domlur at 5:35 PM, Yulu Zone near Cubbon Park Signal at 6:00 PM, KTM Mekhri Circle at 6:20 PM and Govardhan Theatre, Yeshwanthpur at 6:40 PM. Please finish your dinner before boarding.

Once we clear the traffic and hit the Bengaluru–Mumbai highway, the trek leads take over with introductions and icebreakers, run through the plan for the next two days, and then leave you to sleep through the drive to the Goa–Karnataka border.

- 5:00 PM Board at Indian Oil Petrol Pump, HSR: First pickup of the evening, opposite Nandas. We start early because there are around 560 km to Kulem. Please finish your dinner before boarding.
- 5:35 PM Pickup at Yamaha Showroom, Domlur: Second boarding point on the way out of the city.
- 6:00 PM Pickup at Yulu Zone, Cubbon Park Signal: Third boarding point, near the Cubbon Park signal.
- 6:20 PM Pickup at KTM Mekhri Circle: Fourth boarding point on the north side of the city.
- 6:40 PM Final pickup at Govardhan Theatre, Yeshwanthpur: Last boarding point before we get on the Bengaluru–Mumbai highway.
- 8:00 PM Icebreakers, trip briefing and lights out: Once we are out of the city the trek leads run introductions and games, brief the plan for the trek, and then it is a long night drive to the Goa border.

### Day 2: Kulem Basecamp, Railway Track Walk & Dudhsagar Falls

Narrow green country roads bring us into Kulem village on the Goa–Karnataka border by around 8:00 AM. Check in at the homestay, freshen up, eat breakfast and collect the packed lunch you will carry to the falls.

The trek starts around 9:00 AM with a guide. The trail follows the old railway tracks, crosses jeep trails and Sonaulim village, and takes you over an inclined hanging bridge before Dudhsagar opens up in front of you — a thousand metres of water falling in white tiers.

There is time to swim in the pool at the base with a life jacket on, eat lunch beside the cascade and take photos, before trekking back the same way to Kulem for dinner and a relaxed evening of games with the group.

- 8:00 AM Arrive at Kulem basecamp & freshen up: Green country roads bring us into Kulem village. Check in at the homestay and use the freshen-up facility before the trek.
- 8:30 AM Breakfast and collect your packed lunch: Breakfast at the stay, then pick up the packed lunch you will carry to the falls. Fill both water bottles here.
- 9:00 AM Trek out along the old railway tracks: The trek starts with a guide, following the railway line into the forest with streams alongside. Easy to moderate ground, slippery in the rain.
- 11:00 AM Sonaulim village, jeep trails & the hanging bridge: The trail cuts through jeep tracks and Sonaulim village, then crosses an inclined hanging bridge — the last stretch before the falls come into view.
- 1:00 PM Dudhsagar Falls: dip, packed lunch & photos: A thousand metres of water in white tiers. Swim in the pool at the base with a life jacket on, eat your packed lunch beside the cascade and take your time here.
- 4:00 PM Trek back to Kulem: Retrace the trail to the basecamp, then drive across to the homestay to shower and rest.
- 7:30 PM Dinner and evening games at the stay: The one included dinner of the trip, followed by team games and a slow evening with the group before an early night.

### Day 3: Flexible South Goa Exploration & Sunset Farewell

Wake up to birds in quiet Kulem. Breakfast, pack your bags and board the bus — from here the day is deliberately loose.

South Goa is the unhurried side of the state, and the plan stays flexible so the group can pick spots based on weather, tides and traffic. Likely stops are the cliffside ruins of Cabo de Rama Fort, the small cove of Butterfly Beach and the long curve of Palolem. Lunch is at a beach shack and is self-sponsored.

We stay out for the sunset over the Arabian Sea, break for dinner on the highway (also self-sponsored) and start the overnight drive home, reaching Bangalore around 6:30 AM the next morning. Water sports at the beach are not part of the package.

- 7:00 AM Slow morning in Kulem: Wake up to birds and the quiet of the village. No rush this morning.
- 8:00 AM Breakfast, pack up and board the bus: Second included breakfast, then load your luggage and check out. Everything you need for the day stays with you.
- 11:00 AM Cabo de Rama Fort on the cliffs: Coastal ruins on a headland with long views down the Arabian Sea. One of the likely stops on a flexible day.
- 1:00 PM Lunch at a beach shack: Break at a shack on the coast. Lunch on this day is self-sponsored.
- 3:00 PM Butterfly Beach & Palolem: A hidden cove reached by boat or trail, and the long palm-lined curve of Palolem. Which spots we hit depends on tides and traffic on the day.
- 6:00 PM Sunset over the Arabian Sea: The last stop of the trip, timed for the sun going down over the water before we turn inland.
- 8:00 PM Dinner halt and overnight drive back: Dinner on the highway (self-sponsored), then the long drive home. We reach Bangalore around 6:30 AM, so keep Monday light.

## FAQs

### What should I carry for this trek?

A soft copy of your Aadhaar or Voter ID is mandatory for the forest permits. Also carry a small backpack, two 1-litre water bottles, a lunch box and spoon for the packed lunch, shoes with good grip, a raincoat or bag cover, a warm layer, flip-flops, a torch, a power bank, a change of clothes, polybags for wet clothes and cash for the meals not included.

### Where are the pickup points and what time do we leave?

We board on Friday evening from Bangalore, because there are around 560 km to cover: Indian Oil Petrol Pump HSR (opposite Nandas) at 5:00 PM, Yamaha Showroom Domlur at 5:35 PM, Yulu Zone near Cubbon Park Signal at 6:00 PM, KTM Mekhri Circle at 6:20 PM and Govardhan Theatre Yeshwanthpur at 6:40 PM. Please finish dinner before boarding.

### How hard is the Dudhsagar trek?

Easy to moderate. The trail from Kulem runs mostly flat along the old railway tracks and forest paths, and the round trip takes most of the day with breaks at the falls. Monsoon makes it slippery, so shoes with real grip matter. The trip is open to ages 12 and above.

### What is the stay like and which meals are included?

A simple shared property at Kulem village on a rooms-or-dorms basis, with separate zones for men and women. Included: breakfast on both days, the packed lunch you carry on the trek, and dinner on the trek night. Lunch in South Goa and the dinner halt on the drive back are self-sponsored.

### Is the South Goa day a fixed plan?

No, and that is deliberate. Day 2 is kept flexible so the group can pick spots based on weather, tides and traffic. Likely stops are Cabo de Rama Fort, Butterfly Beach and Palolem Beach, with a sunset before the drive home. Water sports at the beach are not part of the package.
