## About this trip

Gokarna is Karnataka's coastline at its most unhurried: a small temple town with a string of hidden beaches strung along the cliffs, most of them reachable only on foot. This weekend walks that string end to end.

Saturday is the trek. Roughly 10 km of easy coastal trail runs from Belekan Beach past Paradise Beach and its untouched sand, down to crescent-shaped Half Moon for a lunch break on the rocks and the short climb to the Rock of Peace, then the steepest stretch of the day into Om Beach, named for the shape it draws on the shore. There are cafes and trinket stalls at Om, and if the sea is generous you may spot dolphins off the horizon. The trail ends at Kudle Beach for sunset, and the night belongs to the group: dinner at the stay, a campfire, and the sound of waves.

Sunday heads up the coast. Murudeshwar first, where a 123-foot statue of Shiva looks out over the Arabian Sea from a headland beside a 20-storey gopura, then Honnavar for a sunset boat ride through the Sharavathi backwaters as the river widens to meet the sea. Dinner is a halt en route before the overnight drive home; you are back in Bengaluru at around 6:00 AM on Monday.

The trek is graded easy, the group stays small, and you sleep in shared AC dorms with bunk beds a short walk from the sand. Come for the beaches, stay for the people you walk them with.

## Itinerary

### Day 1: Gokarna Beach Trek: Belekan to Kudle

The weekend starts on Friday night. Pickups run across Bengaluru — New Udupi Grand in HSR Layout at 7:20 PM, KLM Fashion Mall in Marathahalli at 8:05 PM, Domlur Sky Walk on Old Airport Road at 8:40 PM and Govardhan Theatre in Yeshwanthpur at 9:25 PM — and the bus rolls out for the overnight drive to the coast, with a few icebreakers before everyone settles in to sleep.

You get to Gokarna on Saturday morning, check into the stay and eat breakfast with the sea in view. The trek starts at Belekan Beach and runs roughly 10 km along the cliffs: Paradise Beach and its untouched sand, crescent-shaped Half Moon for a lunch break and the Rock of Peace viewpoint, then the steepest stretch of the day into Om Beach, named for the shape it draws on the shore. Watch the horizon on the way — dolphins turn up along this coast. The trail ends at Kudle Beach for sunset, and the evening runs on dinner at the stay, a campfire and conversation.

- 7:00 AM Arrival & Beach Stay Check-In: Reach Gokarna in the morning, check into the shared AC dorm a short walk from the sand, and shower off the overnight drive.
- 8:00 AM Breakfast by the Sea: Breakfast at the stay with the morning sea air, then gear up for the trek.
- 9:00 AM Beach Trek Begins at Belekan: The coastal trail starts at Belekan Beach, over old rocky shores with the Arabian Sea on one side. Keep an eye on the horizon; dolphins turn up here.
- 11:00 AM Paradise Beach: Untouched sand, calm water and rock formations shaped by the sea. The most pristine stop on the trail, and a good place to get in the water.
- 1:00 PM Half Moon Beach & Rock of Peace: A break on the crescent of Half Moon Beach for lunch at the shacks (self-sponsored), then the short walk up to the Rock of Peace viewpoint.
- 3:00 PM Om Beach & Cafe Stop: The toughest stretch of the day, 2.5-3 km of cliff trail, ends at Om Beach, named for the shape it draws on the shore. Cafes, trinket stalls and optional water sports.
- 6:00 PM Sunset at Kudle Beach: The trail ends at Kudle Beach in time for sunset over the water. An auto back to the stay from here is on your own.
- 8:00 PM Dinner & Campfire at the Stay: Back at the stay for dinner, a campfire and stories with the group before the night winds down.

### Day 2: Murudeshwar Temple & Honnavar Backwaters

Sunday starts early: breakfast at the stay, then check-out and the drive north along the coast to Murudeshwar. The temple complex sits on a headland with a towering gopura and a 123-foot statue of Shiva facing the Arabian Sea, and there is time to walk the promenade and take the views in.

Lunch is a self-sponsored stop en route. In the late afternoon the group reaches Honnavar for a sunset boat ride through the Sharavathi backwaters, where the river widens out to meet the sea. After a dinner halt on the way, the bus starts the overnight drive back, reaching Bengaluru at around 6:00 AM on Monday.

- 7:00 AM Breakfast & Check-Out: An early start, breakfast by the sea, then pack up and check out of the stay.
- 9:00 AM Drive North to Murudeshwar: Board the bus and head up the coastal highway towards Murudeshwar.
- 11:00 AM Murudeshwar Temple & Shiva Statue: The temple complex on the headland: a 20-storey gopura and the 123-foot statue of Shiva looking out over the Arabian Sea, with a seaside promenade to walk.
- 1:00 PM Lunch en Route: A stop at a local eatery for fresh coastal food. Lunch is self-sponsored, so pick whatever you feel like.
- 4:00 PM Sunset Boat Ride at Honnavar: A boat ride through the Sharavathi backwaters and mangrove canals as the river meets the sea, with the light going gold. The boat ride is not included in the package.
- 7:00 PM Dinner Halt on the Way: A stop at a highway restaurant for dinner before the long drive. Dinner tonight is self-sponsored.
- 9:00 PM Overnight Drive to Bengaluru: Settle in for the overnight journey home. Expected arrival in Bengaluru at around 6:00 AM on Monday.

## FAQs

### What should I carry?

Soft copy of your Aadhaar or Voter ID (mandatory for permits), a small backpack for the day, trekking shoes with good grip, a compact raincoat or backpack cover, two one-litre water bottles, a torch or headlamp, flip-flops, warm layers and a jacket, extra clothes to change into, poly bags for wet clothes, a power bank and charging cable, and extra cash for meals and activities not covered in the package.

### How hard is the trek?

It is graded easy. The route covers about 10 km of coastal trail across Belekan, Paradise, Half Moon, Om and Kudle beaches, spread over the whole of Saturday with plenty of stops. The 2.5-3 km stretch into Om Beach is the steepest part of the day. Anyone comfortable on their feet for a few hours will manage it; good grip on your shoes matters more than fitness here.

### What is the check-in policy and how strictly is the daily timeline followed?

Activity and daily timeline: the hourly schedule is tentative and designed to give you the best experience. The order of places or the timings may shift with weather, traffic, local restrictions or road conditions.
Check-in: standard check-in times apply as per the stay's policy, and early check-in is subject to room availability on arrival. Where early check-in isn't available, common washrooms and freshen-up areas are provided so you can get ready for the day without delay.

### Is it safe to travel with strangers?

Safety is built into everything we do. Every member completes ID verification before joining. Our community review system means travellers build a reputation through completed trips. Plus, tribes typically form through chat and video calls before any trip happens, so by the time you meet, they're not really strangers anymore.

### Are your trips safe for women?

On all of our trips, safety is non-negotiable and our priority. Female outdoor leaders accompany every group, the stays are secure, and we guarantee separate sleeping arrangements for men and women.
