## About this trip

An easy day out of Bangalore that packs in more than it should: a Jain hill shrine, a 450-step climb, a quiet lake, a deer park and a hilltop temple with the sun going down behind it.

Mandaragiri Hill, better known locally as Basadi Betta, sits near Tumkur and starts with the Manastambha, the sculpted pillar at the entrance. The showpiece is the Guru Mandir, an 81-foot temple built in the shape of a peacock feather and dedicated to Acharya Shantisagar. From there it is roughly 450 stone steps to the summit, where four Jain temples from the 12th and 14th centuries look out over open countryside. The climb is gentle and beginner-friendly, so you do not need to be a trekker to enjoy it.

The rest of the day slows down: Mydala Lake for a break, lunch, and the Namada Chilume deer park before we drive up Devarayanadurga. DD Hills is a rocky ridge with temples at the top and views that stretch for miles, and it is where the day ends before we head back.

Travel is by private vehicle with a trek leader along, and all required permissions are covered. Meals are self-sponsored, so carry cash or UPI. We leave Bangalore at 6:30 AM and are back around 8:00 PM.

## Itinerary

### Day 1: Basadi Betta, Mydala Lake & Devarayanadurga

Pickups start at 6:00 AM across Bangalore and we head out on the Tumkur road, stopping for breakfast on the way. Mandaragiri comes first: the Manastambha at the entrance, the 81-foot peacock-feather Guru Mandir, then roughly 450 stone steps up to the four Jain temples at the summit. Take it slow, the climb is beginner-friendly but the steps are steep in places. The afternoon eases off at Mydala Lake, lunch, and the Namada Chilume deer park, before we drive up Devarayanadurga for the hilltop temples and the long view. We start back around 6:30 PM and reach Bangalore near 8:00 PM. Meals are self-sponsored, so carry cash or UPI.

## FAQs

### What should I carry?

A government-issued ID (Aadhaar), shoes with good grip for the stone steps, a cap and sunglasses, sunscreen, two litres of water, a light snack, a small backpack, a personal medical kit, a power bank and cash or UPI for meals.

### How hard is the trek?

Easy. It is roughly 450 carved stone steps up Mandaragiri with places to stop along the way, and a short walk at Devarayanadurga. Beginners and families manage it comfortably; just take the steps at your own pace.

### How strictly is the timeline followed?

Pickups start at 6:30 AM, so reach your point ten minutes early. Everything after that is indicative: traffic, temple crowds and how long the group takes on the steps can move things by an hour either way.

### Is it safe to travel with strangers?

Yes. Every departure travels with an experienced trek leader, seats are assigned, and travellers are verified before the trip. Most people join solo and end the day with a new set of friends.

### Terms & conditions

The itinerary may be rearranged to suit availability without changing the total number of days or cutting any service. All guests must carry a government-issued ID. Confirmation of physical and mental fitness is required before the trek.
