## About this trip

One day, three completely different moods, all within a few hours of Bangalore: a Tibetan monastery, one of India’s oldest waterfalls in full post-monsoon flow, and a river town that the sand swallowed.

We leave at 6:00 AM, stop for a South Indian breakfast on the way, and reach the Taksham monastery by mid-morning. It is a quiet start to the day: prayer halls, rows of colour on the flag lines, and very little noise.

By midday we are at Shivanasamudra, where the Kaveri splits and drops as two separate falls, Gaganachukki and Bharachukki. September sits just after the monsoon, so the water is usually loud and heavy. There are view decks at both, and time to walk them properly before lunch at a countryside place nearby.

The afternoon goes to Talakadu, a town on a bend of the Kaveri where drifting sand buried a group of temples centuries ago and a curse is still blamed for it. Some of the temples have been dug out and you can walk right in. We start back around 5:30 PM.

Travel is by private vehicle with a crew along, and state permits, tolls and driver charges are covered. Meals and any entry fees are self-sponsored, so carry cash or UPI.

## Itinerary

### Day 1: Taksham Monastery, Shivanasamudra & Talakadu

We leave Bangalore at 6:00 AM and stop for a South Indian breakfast on the way. The Taksham monastery comes first, quiet prayer halls and lines of prayer flags, before we head to Shivanasamudra for Gaganachukki and Bharachukki, the twin falls where the Kaveri splits. September is just after the monsoon, so expect them loud and heavy. Lunch is at a countryside place nearby, and the afternoon goes to Talakadu and its sand-buried temples on a bend of the river. We start back around 5:30 PM. Meals and entry fees are self-sponsored, so carry cash or UPI, and keep to the marked view decks at the falls.

- 6:00 AM Departure from Bangalore: Boarding starts at 6:00 AM from your chosen pickup point, with introductions once everyone is on board.
- 8:30 AM Breakfast stop en route: A South Indian breakfast at a place on the highway. Self-sponsored.
- 10:00 AM Taksham Monastery: Prayer halls, rows of prayer flags and a quiet start to the day at the Tibetan monastery.
- 12:30 PM Gaganachukki & Bharachukki Falls: Shivanasamudra, where the Kaveri splits into twin falls. Walk both view decks; September flow is heavy, so stay behind the railings.
- 2:00 PM Countryside lunch: A local lunch at a rustic spot near the falls and time to catch your breath. Self-sponsored.
- 4:00 PM Talakadu sand-buried temples: A river town where drifting sand swallowed a group of temples centuries ago. Several have been excavated and you can walk right in.
- 5:30 PM Return journey to Bangalore: We start back around 5:30 PM and drop at the same points in the city late evening.

## FAQs

### What should I carry?

A government-issued ID (Aadhaar), shoes with grip for the wet steps at the falls, a cap and sunglasses, sunscreen, a water bottle, a rain layer, a change of clothes if you plan to get sprayed, a power bank and cash or UPI for meals and entry fees.

### Can we get into the water at the falls?

No. Both Gaganachukki and Bharachukki are viewed from marked decks and steps, and the flow just after the monsoon is strong. Entering the water is not part of the trip and is not permitted at these points.

### How strictly is the timeline followed?

We leave Bangalore at 6:00 AM sharp, so reach your pickup point ten minutes early. The rest is indicative: traffic, weekend crowds at the falls and how long the group lingers can shift things by an hour either way.

### Is it safe to travel with strangers?

Yes. Every departure travels with a crew, seats are assigned, and travellers are verified before the trip. Most people join solo and end the day with a new set of friends.

### Terms & conditions

The itinerary may be rearranged to suit availability without changing the total number of days or cutting any service. All guests must carry a government-issued ID. Confirmation of physical and mental fitness is required before the trip. No refund is provided for disruptions caused by government orders, harsh weather, protests, landslides or other unforeseen circumstances.
