The trip
Hampi is a weekend that does not feel rushed. Two days, one night, and an overnight bus each way from Bangalore — enough time to see the ruins properly without spending the whole trip in a vehicle.
Day one stays on the quieter northern side of the river. Mornings by Sanapur Lake and the Tungabhadra backwaters, a short rocky hike up to Anegundi Fort for views across the boulder fields, and a sunset climb up the stone steps of Anjanadri Hill, said to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman.
Day two is the heritage side. The Stone Chariot at the Vittala temple complex, the Lotus Mahal and the Elephant Stables in the royal enclosure, the still-working Virupaksha Temple, and the flea-market lanes of Hampi Bazaar before the drive home.
Travel, a shared stay, breakfast on both days, monument entry fees and an experienced trip leader are covered. You travel with a small group of solo travellers, first-timers and weekenders, so it is an easy trip to join on your own.
Two days. Granite, temples and two very good sunsets.

Lakeside Leisure, Fort Trails & Anjanadri Sunset
We leave Bangalore the previous night — pickups at KLM Fashion Mall, Marathahalli around 9:30 PM, Domlur Sky Walk around 10:00 PM and Govardhan Theatre, Yeshwanthpur around 10:30 PM — and drive through to Hampi with icebreakers, music and conversations on board. Morning brings you to the property on the quieter Anegundi side of the river. Freshen up (early check-in is subject to availability), have breakfast, and head out to Sanapur Lake and the Tungabhadra backwaters for a slow morning among the boulders. The afternoon is a short rocky hike up to Anegundi Fort, and the day closes with a sunset climb up the stone steps of Anjanadri Hill, believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. Back at the stay for dinner, music and a relaxed night under the sky.

A Walk Through History & Sunset Farewell
The heritage side of the river. An early breakfast, check-out, and then a full day walking the ruins of Vijayanagara — the Stone Chariot at the Vittala temple complex, the Lotus Mahal and the Elephant Stables in the royal enclosure, and the still-working Virupaksha Temple below Hemakuta Hill. Monument entry fees are covered. Lunch is at one of Hampi's backpacker cafes and is self-sponsored, and there is time in the bazaar lanes for souvenirs before we board. We start the drive back in the evening and reach Bangalore early the next morning, so keep the following day light.
- 7:00 AMWake up & pack for the dayAn early start so the ruins are done before the afternoon heat. Pack your bags, the vehicle carries them for the rest of the day.
- 8:00 AMBreakfast & check-outSecond included breakfast at the stay, then check out and cross over to the Hampi side.
- 10:00 AMStone Chariot at Vijaya Vittala Temple (a highlight)Hampi’s most photographed monument, plus the musical pillars and the ruined bazaar street that runs up to the complex.

Questions about this trip
What should I carry for this trip?
A small backpack for the day, two 1-litre water bottles, shoes with good grip, flip-flops for the stay, a warm layer, a raincoat or bag cover, a torch or headlamp, a power bank, an extra set of clothes, polybags for wet clothes, and some cash for the meals that are not included.
Where are the pickup points and what time do we leave?
We board on Friday night from Bangalore: KLM Fashion Mall, Marathahalli around 9:30 PM, Domlur Sky Walk (Old Airport Road) around 10:00 PM and Govardhan Theatre, Yeshwanthpur around 10:30 PM. Please finish your dinner before boarding. Exact timings and your trip leader details are shared before the departure date.
I am travelling solo. Is this trip alright to join alone?
Most travellers on this weekend book on their own. The group is capped at 25, an experienced trip leader stays with everyone through both days, and rooms are shared on a multiple-sharing basis with separate rooms for men and women.
What is the stay like and which meals are included?
The stay is a simple shared property on the Anegundi side of the river, so expect clean and basic rather than luxurious. Breakfast on both days is included, along with monument entry fees. Lunches and dinner are self-sponsored, and the meals served on the trip are vegetarian.
How much walking and climbing does this trip involve?
It is an easy weekend. The two climbs are a short rocky hike up to Anegundi Fort and a stepped climb up Anjanadri Hill, each roughly 30 to 45 minutes. Day two is mostly walking around the ruins. Comfortable shoes with grip matter more than fitness here.
