The trip
Four days across Rajasthan's Thar, from the Blue City of Jodhpur to the dunes and golden fort of Jaisalmer. The trip starts at the group hotel in Jodhpur, which you reach on your own, with a full day of sightseeing: Umaid Bhawan Palace, the marble cenotaph of Jaswant Thada, Mehrangarh Fort with its views over the old city, and the cenotaphs and temples of Mandore Garden.
On Day 2 you drive about 330 km to the sand dunes near Jaisalmer, check in at a desert camp and ride out on a camel safari at sunset. Back at camp there is a welcome with dhol and tika, an evening of Rajasthani folk dance, DJ music and snacks, and a night in tents under the stars.
Day 3 begins with a sunrise jeep safari over the dunes, then the abandoned village of Kuldhara, the carved Patwon Ki Haveli and Salim Singh Ki Haveli, and Jaisalmer Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After dinner in town the group drives overnight to Jodhpur, reaching the railway station around 4:00 AM on Day 4.
The package covers a night in a Jodhpur hotel, a night in desert camp tents, the overnight journey back, two breakfasts and two dinners, both safaris and the cultural evening. Travel to Jodhpur and home, lunches, monument entry tickets and GST are extra. The best time to go is October to March.
