The trip
Eight days that take in the best of Sri Lanka, from the south coast to the hill country and the island's ancient heartland. The trip starts with a coastal drive from Colombo to Mirissa, where two nights by the beach give you sunsets over the Indian Ocean and a day out to Bentota and the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort.
From the coast the route climbs into the hills around Ella, through tea plantations, waterfalls and rolling green slopes. You visit the Nine Arch Bridge, hike up Little Adam's Peak and, time permitting, see Ravana Falls. The next morning the scenic train from Ella to Nanu Oya, one of the world's most beautiful rail journeys, carries you through misty tea country, with a tea factory visit on the way to Kandy.
From Kandy, a full-day excursion goes to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and, if time allows, the Dambulla Cave Temple. The last full day begins at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and Kandy Lake, then ends in Colombo with a city tour of Galle Face Green, Gangaramaya Temple and the Fort area.
You stay seven nights in premium 3-star hotels on a bed & breakfast basis, with two dinners included, and travel throughout in an air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking chauffeur guide. Flights to and from Colombo are not part of the package, so you book your own and meet the team at Bandaranaike International Airport.

Arrival in Colombo & Coastal Drive to Mirissa
Land at Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo, clear immigration and meet your driver. From there it is a scenic coastal drive south to Mirissa, with views of the Indian Ocean and seaside towns along the way. Check in to your hotel and take some time to relax. In the evening, walk down to Mirissa Beach for the sunset, or have dinner at one of the beachfront cafés before heading back to the hotel. Overnight in Mirissa.

Bentota & Galle Fort Day Trip
After breakfast, drive up the coast to Bentota, known for its scenic coastline. There is time for optional water sports, a visit to the turtle hatchery or a Madhu River boat safari (at additional cost). Later, head to the historic city of Galle to explore the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort, with its lighthouse, Dutch Reformed Church, Clock Tower and Flag Rock Bastion. If time permits, stop at Jungle Beach or Unawatuna Beach before driving back to Mirissa for a restful evening. Overnight in Mirissa.

After breakfast, check out and set off for Ella, climbing from the coast into Sri Lanka's hill country. The drive passes tea plantations, waterfalls, lush greenery and rolling mountains. On arrival, check in to your hotel and unwind, then take a stroll through Ella Town with its lively cafés and charming atmosphere before heading back for the night. Overnight in Ella.

Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam's Peak & Ravana Falls
After breakfast, visit the iconic Nine Arch Bridge, then hike up Little Adam's Peak for panoramic views over the surrounding hills. If time allows, continue to Ravana Falls and Ravana Cave, two of Ella's best-known natural attractions. In the evening, take a leisurely walk through Ella Town, with its cosy cafés and local markets, before returning to the hotel. Overnight in Ella.

Ella to Kandy by Scenic Train
After breakfast, check out and board the scenic train from Ella to Nanu Oya (subject to availability), one of the world's most beautiful rail journeys, past tea plantations, misty mountains, waterfalls and villages. At Nanu Oya, meet your driver and continue towards Kandy, stopping at a tea plantation and tea factory on the way. If time permits, visit Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya before reaching Kandy. Check in to your hotel and relax for the evening. Overnight in Kandy.

After breakfast, drive to Sigiriya to visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ancient palace ruins, frescoes, landscaped gardens and the Lion's Gate. If time permits, continue to the Dambulla Cave Temple, famous for its ancient Buddhist murals and statues, before returning to Kandy for a relaxing evening. Overnight in Kandy.

Temple of the Tooth & Colombo City Tour
After breakfast, visit the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and take a stroll around Kandy Lake. Later, drive to Colombo for a city tour taking in Galle Face Green, Gangaramaya Temple and the historic Colombo Fort area. Questions about this trip
Are flights and visa included?
No. The package starts with the airport pick-up at Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo on Day 1 and ends with the airport drop on Day 8. Book your flights to land on Day 1 and leave on Day 8, and arrange your Sri Lanka tourist visa before you travel. Carry a passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date.
What should I carry?
Your passport with a printed copy, light cotton clothing for the coast, a warm layer for the cooler hill country around Ella and Nuwara Eliya, comfortable walking shoes for Little Adam's Peak and Sigiriya, swimwear, sunscreen, sunglasses and a cap, clothing that covers shoulders and knees for temple visits, a power bank, a universal travel adapter, and some cash for meals, entry fees and optional activities.
Are entry fees and the Ella train included?
The scenic train from Ella to Nanu Oya is included, subject to ticket availability. Entrance fees to monuments and attractions, such as Sigiriya Rock Fortress and the Temple of the Tooth, are not included, so budget for them separately. Optional activities like water sports and river safaris are also at your own cost.
Where will we stay?
Seven nights in premium 3-star hotels on a bed & breakfast basis: two nights in Mirissa, two in Ella, two in Kandy and one in Colombo. Two dinners during the trip are included. There is no hotel stay on Day 8, so plan your return flight for that day.
How active is this trip?
Moderately. Day 4 includes a hike up Little Adam's Peak, Day 6 means exploring Sigiriya Rock Fortress on foot, and several days have long drives of 3 to 5 hours between the coast, the hill country and Kandy. Let us know about any health conditions before you book.
