Have you watched Kantara? The Bhoota Kola ritual of the Tulu community comes from this very coast. Udupi, a temple town on Karnataka's shoreline, is a mesmerising blend of spirituality, golden beaches and the South Indian cuisine that made its name famous across the country.
This 2-day, 1-night coastal escape from Bangalore starts with a backwater kayaking session through calm mangrove stretches, then moves to Malpe Beach for a boat ride to St. Mary's Island, famous for its hexagonal basalt rock columns and turquoise water, before a lazy evening of beach walks, local snacks and a sunset over the Arabian Sea. Day 2 takes you to Kapu Beach to climb its century-old lighthouse for 360-degree views of the coastline, and on to the clean, Blue Flag-certified Padubidri Beach before the drive back to Bangalore.

We start our journey overnight from Bangalore to Udupi at 08:30 PM and reach Udupi early in the morning after a road trip of around 400 km along the Western Ghats. Pick-up Locations & Timings: 08:30 PM: Udupi Grand (Teacher’s Colony, HSR Layout) 09:00 PM: KLM Fashion Mall (Marathahalli Village) 09:30 PM: Domlur Sky Walk (Old Airport Road, Domlur) 10:00 PM: Govardhan Theatre (Yeshwanthpur, Tumkur Road) Wake up to coastal breezes as we arrive early morning in Udupi! After checking into our property, freshening up, and enjoying a traditional Coastal Karnataka breakfast, we dive straight into our beach adventure. Start with an exciting backwater kayaking session, gliding through calm waters. Next, head to Malpe Beach and take a scenic boat ride to St. Mary’s Island, famous for its unique hexagonal basalt rock formations and turquoise waters. Spend the late afternoon relaxing on the golden sands of Malpe Beach, exploring local shacks, and catching a stunning sunset over the Arabian Sea. Our first stop is Kapu Beach, home to an iconic century-old lighthouse built atop a massive rock. Climb to the top for sweeping 360-degree panoramic views of the roaring ocean and coastline. Next, head to Padubidri Beach, a clean, peaceful, Blue Flag-certified beach perfect for a relaxing afternoon walk and photo session. After a wholesome coastal lunch, begin the return journey to Bangalore with a heart full of sun, sand and seaside memories, reaching the city late at night.
